About Dr Devbhandari

Dr Devbhandari completed his school level education from Chitawan High School in Nepal. He attended Amrit Science College in Kathmandu, Nepal for Intermediate in Science where he was awarded “Amrit Scholarship” and “Tribhuvan University Intelligent Student” scholarship for achieving top scores in the college.

 

Dr Devbhandari was awarded “TCS Colombo Plan” scholarship to study medicine at the prestigious premier institute of India, the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India. At this institute he was the first Nepalese student to achieve a “Distinction in Microbiology”.

 

Dr Devbhandari completed his rotating internship from Command Hospital in Lucknow, India. After completion of internship he started his professional career from Royal Nepalese Army Birendra Hospital in Kathmandu as a Medical Officer and later as a Surgical Resident at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. During his initial tenure in Nepal, he extensively traveled to remote areas such as Manag and Mustang, which at the time had no road connection.

 

Dr Devbhandari was the first Nepalese surgeon to complete surgical training in Nepal and pass the FRCS Edinburgh qualification examination from Kathmandu. He underwent extensive training in a number of prestigious hospitals in United Kingdom such as Royal Brompton Hospital, London, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and University Hospital of Manchester, Manchester, UK. 

 

Dr Devbhandari completed his Specialist Registrar rotation from the Northwestern Deanery in Manchester, UK and qualified with FRCSCTh. He was awarded “Certificate of Completion of Training” through CESR by the General Medical Council and registered as specialist in cardiothoracic surgery. He underwent training in heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at University Hospital of South Manchester in UK. 

 

At present, Dr Devbhandari is working as the Head of Department and Senior consultant in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Human Organ Transplant Center (HOTC) in Bhaktapur, Nepal. HOTC is the only specialist hospital dedicated to multi organ transplantation in Nepal. He is also a visiting CTVS consultant surgeon for Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu University Dhulikhel Hospital, Dhulikhel, Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center, Lalitpur and B&B Hospital, Lalitpur.
